Digital Skills for Empowerment & Social Participation

Description:   Our project ‘Digital Skills for Empowerment & Social Participation’ aims to equip young people and adults with a migrant background in the district of Hamburg Mitte with digital skills to improve their social and economic participation in Hamburg.

The activities in this project (group activities, workshops and individual counselling) aim to improve migrants’ digital skills needed for their participation and integration into society, while providing them with practical knowledge on the use of digital services.

Project Objectives

• Capacity building programme to improve the digital skills of migrants required for their participation and integration in the Hamburg-Mitte district.
• To make migrants and refugees independent, reduce welfare costs and at the same time combat the shortage of skilled labour in various sectors in Hamburg.
• To improve migrants’ chances of accessing the labour market.
• To complement the efforts of various social organisations working to improve the lives of people with a migration background in Hamburg.

Digital skills taught in this project

In this project, the trainers support the migrants in acquiring skills to use digital tools and create digital content to improve their employability. The following digital skills are taught:

• the use of office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• the use of social media as a tool for searching for work opportunities, finding and sharing resources
• the use of Google apps (Google Workspace) such as Google Forms, Spreadsheet, Google Docs for self-management and project management
• the use of LinkedIn and Xing for professional networking and personal branding
• video editing and content creation.

At the end of the programme, all participants receive a certificate and job search support to improve their chances of professional integration.
