Why POWER — and Why Now

Across Europe, young people face mounting challenges — anxiety, disconnection, lack of purpose, and declining motivation. Youth workers stand at the frontline of support, yet many lack structured psychological frameworks to meaningfully address well-being.

POWER equips youth workers with the knowledge, methods, and confidence to integrate the PERMA model — a scientifically grounded framework for flourishing — directly into their everyday practice. From non-formal education to community mentoring, this training bridges positive psychology and real-world youth work.

Built on the PERMA Model

Developed by psychologist Martin Seligman, PERMA is a research-backed model identifying five core elements of human well-being. Each module of this training addresses one pillar.

P
Positive Emotions

Fostering joy, gratitude, and hope in youth through intentional activities and reflective practice.

E
Engagement

Helping young people find flow states and deep involvement in meaningful activities.

R
Relationships

Building authentic social connections and community belonging as a foundation for resilience.

M
Meaning

Supporting young people in discovering purpose and contributing to something larger than themselves.

A
Achievement

Celebrating progress, building self-efficacy, and nurturing a growth mindset in youth programs.

Project Objectives

01
Strengthen youth worker competences Equip youth workers with practical tools to foster positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and achievement in youth programmes.
02
Improve non-formal education practice Introduce innovative, evidence-based methods applicable directly in workshops, mentoring sessions, and community activities.
03
Support inclusion and diversity Enable youth workers to effectively support disadvantaged, culturally diverse, or vulnerable young people.
04
Strengthen organisational capacity Provide partners with transferable methods and toolkits that can be integrated into ongoing youth work programmes.
05
Promote European cooperation Facilitate peer learning, exchange of best practices, and networking among youth workers from Germany, Spain, and Italy.

What the Training Looks Like

Seven days of intensive non-formal education, combining interactive workshops, peer learning, and daily reflection cycles — followed by a local implementation phase.

Interactive Workshops

Dedicated sessions on each PERMA pillar, blending theory with hands-on facilitation practice and real youth work scenarios.

Peer Learning Circles

Group discussions on mental health challenges in youth work, sharing approaches across national and cultural contexts.

Daily Reflection Sessions

Structured feedback circles each day to track competence development and integrate learning progressively throughout the week.

Follow-Up Phase

Participants implement local PERMA workshops in their home organisations and reconnect via online follow-up meetings for ongoing peer support.
