Conference of African PhDs in Germany (CAPiG)

Background

According to the Africa Strategy of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany, education, research and innovation are key to turning the myriad challenges facing Africa into impactful opportunities. In order to achieve this, scholars, particularly researchers both in the industry and academia have a critical role to play.

At Horizon Resource Network, our independent survey shows that African scholars in Germany rarely have a platform to network, and exchange knowledge on topical research and academic issues. Moreso, African Ph.D. candidates are mostly left on their own to navigate through the challenging waters in academia with little or no support. This trend has led to many unsavoury episodes among African PhDs in Germany; such as the inability to attain the requirements for the award of their Ph.D. degrees in various Institutions of learning, the decline in self-motivation to turn research ideas into tangible results, career challenges after Ph.D., and many more. CAPiG offers a good opportunity to plug this gap.

CAPiG seeks to bring together African intellectuals who are currently studying for their Ph.D. degree or have completed their Ph.D. in Germany. In addition, postdoctoral researchers, as well as prospectus Ph.D. students, are cordially invited to be part of this conference.

As part of this conference, there will be presentations, panel discussions, career workshops, networking & mentoring sessions and lots more. As a way of motivating prospective and current Ph.D. candidates, Ph.D. graduates from various fields will have the opportunity to share their experience
