Youth Exchange “Get Unstuck Through Sports (GUTS)”

GUTS is a dynamic youth exchange program that allows young individuals from Germany, Turkey and Spain to leverage the key elements of sports and physical activities to build physical and mental resilience and make positive changes for themselves and others in their communities.

Project Objectives

The objectives of the Project are:

To raise awareness about the importance of resilience in pursuing life’s goals.
To expose participants to knowledge and elements of sports that can be used to overcome emotional exhaustion and
other adverse effects of societal challenges.
To utilize sports as a tool for young people to push their bodies to achieve at the highest levels imaginable
To teach young people how to gain self-mastery and empowerment through sports
To create space for participants to exchange cultural views and opinions and experience each other’s perspectives.
To create a network of young people interested in building strong fortitude to cope with the demands of society.

Project Results/Outcomes

Through the various activities within the project framework, the participants developed a clearer understanding of the need to build resilience to cope with societal demands. There was increased knowledge of the elements of sports that can be leveraged to build resilience in pursuing life’s goals among the youth. The sporting activities promoted teamwork, collaboration, perseverance, self-awareness, self-confidence, trust, celebrating wins and managing losses. In addition, the project provided a safe yet demanding environment where resilience can be developed and nurtured. Participants emerged from the youth exchange with increased confidence in their abilities and capacities to confront life’s challenges with a positive outlook.
