Trip to Köln - [International Week Against Racism]
Members of HRN e.V., mostly Students from Ukraine, participated in the events organised by the Cologne forum as part of the activities implemented to mark the International Week Against Racism. The focus of the event was to enlighten participants on critical well-being and the Importance of Self-Care in the context of racism.
The event kick-started with a session called “Coming Home to Myself” embodiment and movement workshop, led by Vanessa Thiel (Cologne Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation e.V.). The goal of the session was to train participants on how to get a hold of themselves while paying attention to their environment. It provided empowerment in understanding what makes one safe and how those things can enhance a stress-free life. A yoga workshop immediately went on right after.
The second half of the event was an Empowerment & Management Space led by ADB Caritas Association for the City of Cologne e.V. The session was intended for participants to network and discuss some of the challenges they face as immigrants in Germany. Issues relating to integration, settlement in Germany, and managing & supporting families back home were highlighted, while the question and answer section helped the participants to gain orientation and clarity on bothering matters.
Furthermore, the Pamoja Awareness Network for Kids & Teens, organized by Pamoja Afrika e.V., put together a session where the kids gave a presentation about creating awareness on Racism amongst teenagers and learning how to have a voice.
The one-day event ended with an evening session on Wellness and mindfulness. Participants enjoyed a relaxing body massage, hand scrubbing, face massage and sleeping therapy implemented by SKM family center.
The team had a great time connecting with the hosts and enjoying the beauty of the City.
We appreciate our partners Pamoja Afrika e.V. Cologne, and Care Deutschland GmbH for the support.
